Peminat Rendah, Prodi Pendidikan Kimia Upayakan Promosi

Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) telah berdiri sejak tahun 1962 dibawah naungan YLPI (Yayasan Lembaga Pendidikan Islam). Sampai saat ini, UIR sudah mempunyai 35 Program Jurusan Sarjana dari beberapa fakultas. Ada berbagai fakultas yang dimiliki oleh Universitas Islam Riau ini, dari fakultas yang ramai peminat hingga fakultas yang kurang peminatnya.

Menurut data yang diperoleh dari BAAK, melalui Data Penerimaan Mahasiswa Baru Tahun 2023, Fakultas dengan peminat terbanyak dipegang oleh Fakultas Hukum dengan Progra Studi (Prodi) Ilmu Hukum Sebanyak 728 Mahasiswa. Sementara prodi dengan mahasiswa paling sedikit yaitu Prodi Pendidikan Kimia dari Fakultas Keguruan dengan hanya lima siswa dalam satu angkatan 2023.

Prodi Pendidikan Kimia disetujui oleh DIKTI (Direktorat Jendral Pendidikan Tinggi) pada Juni 2016 dengan SK Pendirian Prodi SK DIKTI Nomor: 203/KPT/I/2017. Prodi Pendidikan Kimia UIR mulai melaksanakan penerimaan mahasisa baru Tahun Ajaran 2017/2018 dengan Mahasiswa di tahun pertama itu sebanyak delapan mahasiswa.

Apabila dilihat dari data penerima mahasiswa yang bersumber dari BAAK, dari tahun 2020 hingga 2023, mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan kimia tidak pernah menerima mahasiwa lebih dari 10 orang.

Putri Ade Rahma Yulis, S.Pd, M.Si, selaku Kepala Prodi Pendidikan Kimia mengatakan, “Rendahnya peminat orang untuk mengambil Program Studi Kimia ini karena mindsetnya yang mendengar kata kimia itu saja sudah sulit, padahal dalam kehidupan sehari – hari kita selalu berdampingan sangat erat dengan kimia”

Banyak upaya yang dilakukan oleh Prodi Pendidikan Kimia baik dosen dan mahasiswa untuk mempromosikan Prodi tersebut. Mulai dari promosi secara offline maupun online.

“Kalau promosi offline itu kami langsung turun ke sekolah-sekolah yang ada di Riau dan mendata siswa kelas 12-nya untuk kita sosialisasikan tentang jurusan tersebut. Kalau untuk online juga kami sudah melakukan promosi berbayar di media sosial,” ucap Putri Ade.

Selain itu, Prodi Pendidikan Kimia juga membuat penawaran menggratiskan pembayaran pin untuk 10 Mahasiswa pertama yang mendaftar di jurusan tersebut. Dimana uang pin yang sudah dibayarkan, akan dikembalikan oleh pihak Prodi. Beasiswa juga ditawarkan untuk menarik simpati siswa agar bergabung ke program studi tersebut.

Walaupun jurusan tersebut sepi peminatnya, tetapi prospek kerja yang didapati tidak main – main. Program Studi Pendidikan Kimia mempunyai Tiga Profil Unggulan yaitu, menjadi Pendidik Kimia, Asisten Peneliti, dan bisa menjadi Enterprenuer.

Sedikitnya mahasiswa yang belajar dalam satu kelas Pendidikan Kimia tidak jauh berbeda dari prodi lainnya, bahkan mahasiswa menjadi bisa lebih fokus dan lebih aktif di dalam kelas.

“Jadi kaya privat proses pembelajarannya, karena di dalam kelas itu paling banyak tujuh, dan terakhir ini lima mahasiswa. Jadinya dosen lebih mudah mengenali masing-masing mahasiswa dan kesempatan berdiskusi juga lebih banyak diperoleh,” tutur Putri Ade.
