Rekonsiliasi Konflik Tionghoa-Melayu Bagansiapiapi: Sentimen Masa Lalu yang Berujung Integrasi
“Karena orang-orang yang kompor, padahal hubungan kami baik-baik saja.” Ucap Buyung Awang.

Pria tua itu menghisap rokoknya, udara malam diluar menyelinap masuk dari pintu yang memang dibuka lebar. Hari itu, Selasa, 5 juli 2022. Sudah hampir satu jam sejak saya disambut masuk ke dalam rumah kayu sederhana berwarna coklat muda. Dengan berbagai tanaman di depan rumah, ada bugenvil, adam hawa, lidah mertua, dan ada juga pohon bebotoh. Katanya, getah pohon ini jika terkena mata akan menyebabkan buta. Itulah kenapa disebut bebuto.
Buyung Awang, begitu orang-orang menyapanya. Pria itu mengenakan kaos Polo merah dipadu sarung dengan warna selaras. Badannya jangkung dengan urat-urat dan kulit yang sudah mulai keriput. Usianya memasuki 60 tahun, orang Melayu yang sudah turun temurun tinggal di Bagansiapiapi.
“Kalau orang Tionghoa biasa panggil saya Obak,” katanya. Obak sendiri memiliki arti orang yang berkulit hitam.
Asap rokok menari-nari di udara seakan menjadi mesin waktu yang sedari tadi membawa kami terbang mengintip masa lalu Bagansiapiapi yang memilukan dari kacamata Buyung Awang.
Pasca kemerdekaan, pada tahun 1946, etnosentrisme masih menguasai kepala orang-orang Tionghoa di Bagansiapiapi. Sempat dijuluki dengan Een China in Oost Indie oleh Belanda, menjadikan keangkuhan berada di atas segala-galanya sehingga enggan mengibarkan Bendera Merah Putih sebagai bentuk penghormatan terhadap bangsa yang baru saja merdeka.
Itulah pemicu terjadinya konflik antara orang Melayu yang kebakaran jenggot melihat tindakan orang Tionghoa. Peristiwa Bendera, begitulah mereka mengingatnya.
“Tapi di tahun 49 sampai 50 sudah stabil, setelah adanya perjanjian perdamaian. Tidak hanya dari orang Tionghoa dan Melayu, tapi juga semua agama yang ada di sini.” ujarnya.
Pria itu membetulkan duduknya menjadi lebih tegap, lalu mengatakan bahwa meskipun sudah ada perjanjian damai, tetapi tetap saja masih ada sedikit perselisihan di antara keduannya. Dan sebagian besar permasalahan itu berasal dari provokasi pihak ketiga.
Buyung Awang bercerita, di tahun 1998 ada dua orang pemuda dari Tionghoa dan Melayu yang terlibat dalam suatu pertengkaran yang berujung kebakaran besar di kota itu. Mulanya pertengkaran tersebut selesai dengan jalur damai. Namun banyak isu yang beredar dari mulut ke mulut orang Tionghoa bahwa Melayu yang menyerang duluan, sedangkan dari mulut ke mulut orang Melayu, Tionghoa yang memulai duluan.
“Hingga pada suatu sore, terjadilah kebakaran itu. Tanpa tau siapa yang bakar, tau-tau api sudah naik. Mungkin saja karena ada kepentingan pribadi, atau golongan tertentu barangkali. Karena saat itu kebetulan pula mau pembentukan kabupaten Rokan Hilir,” jelas Buyung Awang sambil mematikan bara api di rokoknya yang sudah memendek.
Buyung Awang kembali menghidupkan sebatang rokok, kembali membawa saya ke tahun 1981. Dimana saat itu untuk pertama kalinya Buyung Awang bekerja dengan orang Tionghoa. Mengenal lebih dekat dan memahami bagaimana sifat-sifat mereka.
“Dengan mereka itu simpel. Empat tahun saya makan gaji dari mereka. Jadi tidak ada lagi dendam masa lalu, apalagi saya lihat anak-anak muda sekarang pikirannya sudah terbuka. Mungkin hanya orang-orang tuanya saja yang masih kolot,” ceritanya.
Bagansiapiapi sendiri adalah kota kecil di ujung Provinsi Riau, ibu kota dari kabupaten Rokan Hilir. Untuk sampai ke kota ini membutuhkan waktu kurang lebih lima jam jika ditempuh melalui jalan tol dari Kota Pekanbaru.
Kabupaten Rokan Hilir memiliki penduduk mencapai 600 ribu jiwa menurut data Badan Pusat Statistik Rokan Hilir tahun 2021. Dengan mayoritas beragama Islam yang berbaur dengan puluhan komunitas Tionghoa dari berbagai marga yang sebagian besarnya merupakan suku Hokkian.
Mulai Terbuka dengan Pemikiran-pemikiran Baru
Kesana kemari saya mencari orang Tionghoa yang bisa diajak duduk bersama untuk berbagi cerita. Berkeliling kota dan melihat sebenarnya sangat banyak potensi untuk bertemu dengan satu orang dari sekian banyak penduduk Tionghoa di sana.
Setiap beberapa meter akan ada vihara atau kelenteng, lalu rumah-rumah khas Tionghoa dengan warna-warna cerah, dan para orang tua yang duduk-duduk bersantai di teras membuat saya ingin menepikan sepeda motor untuk singgah ke sana. Namun sayangnya yang saya terima adalah penolakan.
Saya tiba di depan kedai kopi, rujukan dari seorang kenalan untuk bertemu seorang Tionghoa yang mungkin bisa saya tanyai. Saat itu masih pukul empat sore, kedai tersebut belum buka sepenuhnya.
Saat saya menginjakkan kaki di kedai itu, saya melihat seorang pria Tionghoa yang mungkin berusia kisaran 60 tahunan sedang memerintahkan anak buahnya. Lalu ketika saya menghampiri dan mengeluarkan sepatah dua patah kata tujuan saya mendatanginya, tiba-tiba pria itu menunjukkan gerakan tangan ‘tidak’ sambil mengeluarkan suara-suara yang saya asumsikan dia adalah orang dengan disabilitas tuli.
Ia menyuruh saya untuk menunggu, dan masuk ke dalam rumah. Beberapa menit kemudian ia keluar bersama seorang wanita paruh baya yang merupakan anak dari pria tua itu.
“Kami tidak bisa memberikan penjelasan apa-apa, karena takut nanti salah dalam menjelaskan. Harusnya kamu tanya sama orang yang memang tau semuanya,” jelas wanita yang bernama Vina itu.
Saya hanya mendapatkan sedikit informasi dari Vina yang juga merupakan seorang guru di salah satu yayasan besar di Bagansiapiapi mengenai pembauran dalam bidang pendidikan. Katanya tidak ada lagi sekat-sekat antara orang Tionghoa dan Melayu di sekolah, di mana khususnya anak-anak Tionghoa juga bisa mendalami kebudayaan Melayu, salah satunya dalam pelajaran kesenian Melayu.
Bertolak dari kedai kopi, keesokan harinya saya menemui Selvy. Juga seorang wanita Tionghoa yang merupakan anggota dari komunitas Bagansiapiapi Tempo Doeloe (BTD).
Saya disambut hangat di sekretariat BTD di Jalan Bahagia. Tempat itu masih terbilang kecil karena memang usia komunitas ini masih sangat muda. Di semua sisi dinding ruangan terpajang puluhan foto-foto vintage yang menunjukkan bahwa foto-foto tersebut diambil pada zaman dulu.
“Saya juga bingung kenapa orang-orang tua masih berpikiran kolot,” jawab Selvy ketika saya berbagi cerita sulitnya menemukan orang Tionghoa yang bersedia untuk diwawancara.
“Kalau saya sendiri mungkin karena turunan dari ayah saya yang senang berbaur dengan semua orang. Makanya saya juga senang sekali bergabung di BTD. Bersama orang-orang dari berbagai etnis membangun kembali sejarah kota kecil kami ini,” tambahnya.
Wanita 41 tahun itu berkisah tentang ayahnya yang dikenal dengan nama panggung Karolie, membentuk sebuah band musik pada tahun 70-an dengan nama The Putra Gama Band. Band tersebut beranggotakan orang-orang dari multi etnis, sehingga lagu-lagu yang mereka bawakan juga dari berbagai bahasa seperti Indonesia, Mandarin, Jawa, dan Melayu.
Ia juga menambahkan bahwa di zaman sekarang generasi baru sudah memiliki pikiran yang terbuka. Sudah banyak orang-orang Bagansiapiapi yang sekolah ke ibu kota bahkan ke luar negeri sehingga tidak ada lagi perselisihan hanya karena sejarah masa lalu yang kelam.
“Sebenarnya gak ada yang harus dibedakan, karena pada dasarnya semua adalah makhluk Tuhan,” pungkas Selvy.
Simbiosis Mutualisme
Saya mengunjungi Tempat Bakar Tongkang yang terletak di Jalan Perniagaan. Yang ada di benak ketika membayangkan tempat itu adalah tempat yang sakral dan harus dijaga. Namun nyatanya tempat itu adalah area umum yang bisa digunakan oleh siapa saja.
Siang itu, ketika saya mendatangi tempat tersebut, terlihat sekelompok anak-anak sanggar yang sedang berlatih menari di pendopo, tepat di samping lapangan pembakaran. Dari informasi yang saya dapatkan, mereka sedang berlatih untuk pembukaan acara Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) yang akan diadakan di akhir bulan Juli 2022.
“Pembauran. Itu yang terjadi disini,” kata Buyung Awang. Saya kembali teringat dengan kata-katanya ketika melihat di pintu masuk tempat pembakaran tongkang, terdapat penjual rujak yang merupakan orang Melayu dan pembelinya adalah orang-orang Tionghoa.
Tradisi Bakar Tongkang menjadi salah satu daya tarik di Bagansiapiapi. Banyak wisatawan yang hadir ketika acara itu berlangsung, bahkan dari mancanegara. Membuat pendapatan pariwisata Bagansiapiapi naik, dan pedagang-pedagang kecil mendapatkan keuntungan.
“Orang Tionghoa bisa melaksanakan tradisi mereka dengan nyaman. Dan sebaliknya ekonomi masyarakat disini bisa terangkat. Jadi ada manfaat untuk semua orang,” ujar Selvy.
Ia juga selalu mengatakan bahwa toleransi sudah menjadi pranata, khususnya di zaman sekarang. “Bisa dikatakan ini budaya ya. Maka kita jagalah budaya kita ini supaya bisa terus ada sampai anak cucu kita nanti,” tutup Selvy.
