Peduli Lingkungan, Kampus Kembangkan Pengolahan Sampah

Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) berupaya mengembangkan pengolahan sampah di lingkungan kampus. Hal ini berawal dari pemikiran Ir. H Rosyadi, M.Si—Wakil Rektor (WR III) melihat adanya peluang sampah menjadi sesuatu yang bernilai. Pengolahan sampah di UIR sebenarnya bukan suatu ide baru, namun selalu ada kendala saat pelaksanaannya.

Rosyadi mengungkapkan telah meminta beberapa mahasiswa untuk mengelola sampah. Sampah tersebut ditampung kedalam bank sampah, namun tidak berjalan disebabkan kurangnya minat mahasiswa, “Kalau ada mahasiswa yang berminat untuk mengolah sampah maka akan kami kursuskan” ujar Rosyadi.

Rosyadi juga menjelaskan kurangnya minat itu didasari oleh stigma bahwa sampah itu beraroma busuk, padahal sampah yang diolah bukanlah sampah yang kumuh dan kotor, tetapi sampah yang masih bisa didaur ulang seperti sampah organik,  botol, plastik dan kertas, Selasa (29/10).

“Awal pembentukan pengolahan sampah dilaksanakan di Fakultas Pertanian, dibawah naungan pusat kajian lingkungan hidup, namun karena adanya perpindahan penugasan, akhirnya tidak berjalan,” ungkap Rosyadi.

Rosyadi menambahkan pengolahan sampah ini mulai dilanjutkan kembali yang dikerjakan oleh mahasiswa dan BHL—Pekerja lepas yang ada di UIR, sistemnya juga tidak jauh berbeda dengan sebelumnya.

“Caranya dengan dicacah dengan mesin yang kita punya. Setelah itu baru dikompositkan dengan bakteri sekitar dua atau tiga minggu baru menjadi kompos.” ujar Rosyadi

Pengolahan sampah UIR menjadi pupuk kompos.

Sementara, hasil dari penjualan sampah yang sudah diolah dimasukan ke kas untuk keperluan operasional dan sisanya dibagikan kepada mahasiswa yang mengelolahnya, “Saya berharap bahwa mahasiswa lebih cinta pada kebersihan lingkungan, walaupun kita tidak bisa mengurangi sampah setidaknya kita jadikan sampah menjadi barang yang berguna dan bernilai. Bernilai disini bermakna bisa menjadi pendapatan,” ujar Rosyadi

M. Sodiq—Koordinator BHL menjelaskan sampah yang berasal dari seluruh fakultas dikumpulkan di Bank sampah yang letaknya tidak jauh dari Faperta, lalu diolah kembali menjadi benda yang memiliki nilai jual seperti pupuk kompos. Sementara sampah yang tidak bisa diolah dibuang ke Tempat Pembuangan Akhir (TPA) Muara Fajar.

Fahridar—Sekretaris Badan Pengembangan dan Pemeliharaan Aset (BPPA) juga berharap, agar mahasiswa mendukung kebersihan kampus, lebih aktif berperan untuk tercapainya kampus yang bersih. Timbulkan rasa kepemilikan didalam diri karna ada banyak manfaat yang kita dapatkan disaat kampus bersih. Apabila kita tidak mampu menjaga maka berusahalah untuk tidak merusak.
